Ways to Boost Your Creativity and Go Further in Your Life

creativity is maximised when you are living in the moment

Have you ever had days where you are going about business as usual, but then something happens that sparks an idea in your mind? This happened to me the other day as I was running down the beach. I was doing what I usually do, but minus the distraction of my phone.

Since I didn’t have anything distracting me, I was paying extra close attention to the sights and sounds around me. In that moment, my creative juices were flowing as I was thinking about the latest project Brian and I are working on.

You can hear me talk about some of the stuff Brian and I were working on in this video. I think you are going to be really excited to hear about what we plan to bring with us to Bali in a few months.

The Importance of Living in the Moment

Aren’t we all guilty of living everywhere but in the moment? It’s like we become immune to our surroundings and what is going on.

I think it is even easier for people to ignore the moments they are living in then ever before. Have you ever been to an incredible event and looked around to see people staring down at their phones? I know I’ve been guilty of that, too.

When we allow ourselves to be distracted by other things and never break away, then there is no way for our creativity to flourish.

Creating an Environment That Allows Creativity To Flow

In order to allow the creativity in your mind to flow, you need to create the right environment. It is next to impossible to think something is always going on. There has to be times in your day that you remove yourself from the commotion and get alone with your thoughts.

Commit to spending time away from others so that you can have the time to think. I know that you have a busy life and it seems impossible to add one more thing to it. However, the benefits of allowing the ideas to swim around in your head are much better than the alternative…which is stifling the ability to reach greatness.

Practical Things You Can do to Boost Creativity

There are plenty of things you can do to naturally boost creativity in the brain. Personally, I love going for walks, runs, or doing anything outside. Would you believe that just getting out in nature and seeing open spaces will improve your creativity?

Here are some things you can do to get the thoughts flowing in your mind. Doing any of these activities for as little as 10 minutes can make a big difference.

Journal- write down all of the ideas that come to you. If you don’t like writing full sentences, then jot down your ideas in shorthand.

Sit Outside- like I said, getting outside and seeing open spaces naturally boosts your brain’s functions.

Go for a Walk- taking a walk has been proven to engage parts of the brain that help you think.

Meditate- I’m all about taking time to meditate and allow my mind to be at ease.

Look at Something Blue or Green- some research has shown that looking at blue or green objects will boost creativity. Maybe that is why I love the ocean so much.

Laugh at Something- laughing is a great way to relax your body and put your mind in a place where it can freely think. Find something funny to laugh at or call a friend that knows how to make you laugh.

These are a few simple things you can do to get your thoughts flowing. When you allow yourself to freely think, it will become easier and easier.

How You Can Go Further in Life When You Get Creative

It is very important that you take your ideas to the next step. Not everything that pops up in your mind is worth pursuing, but there are plenty of things that are.

It’s ok to pursue an idea that doesn’t end up going anywhere. Sometimes, you may have an idea that you start to make happen, and then it stops for some reason. Later, you might find a way to pick that idea back up and run with it.

That has happened to Brian and I plenty of times. We have ideas and brainstorm sessions. Sometimes, what we think will work, doesn’t. Other times, our ideas take years to manifest.

Today, I’m challenging to you to live in the moment. Allow your mind to dream big and get those creative juices flowing. It is so important that you make time for that in your life.

Rhonda I couldn’t agree with you more. In our fast paced world it’s often challenging to live in the moment. I’m a passionate gardener and use my time in the garden not only for exercise and fresh air but to allow my mind to relax and wander. Thanks for this wonderful reminder.
