Entrepreneurship can feel very isolating at times, and although many of us understand the value of being surrounded by likeminded entrepreneurs, growing a successful business leaves little time to build relationships. As the quality of your clients and the value of your business increases, so too will the value of your time. However, like most things in business, you need to work smarter, and not harder.

Here’s 4 things I know about relationships and business…

Even leaders need a tribe.

The old adage of “it’s lonely at the top” is only true if you have the wrong peer group. When we’re at the “top”, we often make the critical mistake of thinking we’re alone. We go on thinking that what we’re going through is unique to us but that’s most often never the case. One thing I learned early in my entrepreneurial career is no matter what business you’re in… raising capital, managing employees, dealing with cash flow issues… we all face similar pains as entrepreneurs. We’re not alone.

“To know the road ahead, ask those coming back.” – Chinese Proverb

The wisest investment is wisdom.

Good judgement often comes from experience, and experience often comes from bad judgement. By leveraging the wisdom of others, you can condense decades of knowledge and experience into days.

What got you here, won’t get you there.

If you have a 7 figure business, but want to build an 8 figure business you’ll need to build 8 figure structures, you’ll need an 8 figure team, and you’ll need 8 figure relationships.

All problems can be solved with the right network.

Whatever challenge or opportunity you have, the solutions are never found in what, how or even why you do something. The solution always comes down to WHO you need in order to resolve the situation. If you want to multiply your business, concentrate on and strategize about WHO you need to be influenced by and associate with and learn from, in order to accomplish your big business goals for 2014. The WHO factor (or high-level associations), is one of the most difficult challenges we face as ambitious business owners, and yet it’s the most important factor.

Your network is your net-worth. Focus on building your tribe.

The mentors I reach out to on a regular basis have drastically reduced my learning curve and have played a pivotal roll in my successes. If you do not have a mentor or someone that has experienced the path that you are looking to embark upon I suggest you find one.
