A Fable About the Giant’s Garden Teaches Us We Have a Choice

In Be Unstoppable 2, Blog, Lifestyle Tips

Have you ever been around someone that is in a chronic bad mood? I’m talking more than just a day of getting up on the wrong side of the bed.

I’ve got someone in my life right now that has had more than their share of grumpiness. It is really starting to affect our ability to hang out…and why shouldn’t it? This individual is putting up walls and making it hard for us to enjoy their company.

Maybe you are that person. You’ve gotten yourself into a funk and it doesn’t matter what’s going on in your life, you are not happy. If that is you or someone you know, I have some thoughts about this.

giantThe Fable of the Giant’s Garden

Our attitude has everything to do with success.

In my video, I talked about a fable of the Giant’s Garden. In a nutshell, this giant was a selfish individual that blocked his garden off to the outside world. (if you have watched my video already, bare with me as I hit a few highlights).

Not only did he not want to share his garden with the world, but he made a rash decision to eat the children that were getting into his area. He put up barriers and acted horribly to those around him.

For that reason, God  brought a curse onto his land. The area was covered with ice and his beautiful garden was no longer beautiful. Spring returned to the land, but his garden was still plagued with ice and snow.

He had brought this fate onto himself when he decided to be selfish and put up the barriers.

Children continued to sneak into the garden. One day, a small boy was left behind and he was crying because he could not get out of the garden. The giant had compassion on him, brought him in, warmed him up and fed him and that moment, the snow and ice melted away. The giant realized what his attitude had done to plague his life.

Have You Put up Barriers?

We can learn so much from this story…which is why I told it to you. Are you like the giant and have put up barriers in your life? We are all guilty of doing this at some point or another.

You see, we think we are protecting ourselves when we put up walls around ourselves. Sure, we can keep the bad things out that way, but you know what else? We keep out the good things too.

Are You Keeping Good Things Out?

Have you ever happened past a piece of property with a no trespassing sign? That’s not a very welcoming sign is it? You will keep away some unwanted guests, but you will also tell those that would be good for your life to stay away.

You have to ask yourself if you have a no trespassing sign on your forehead. Your attitude has a lot to do with where you are in your life. If you are protecting everything you have to the point of being a butt to the people around you, it is no wonder you are having a hard time succeeding.

What Goes Around Comes Around

This is not always true, but pretty often, what goes around comes back around to you. If you are breathing lifeisrespondingtoyounegativity, then negative things are going to happen. When you are source of encouragement, then positive things are more likely going to come back to you.

Decide where you are today and figure out what you want in your life. If you want negative things to come, then you stay in your negative mood. If you want positive things to come, then you have to change that negative to the positive.

You Get to Decide

You can snap out of your funk and bring blessings on yourself, I believe in you. Change your attitude and do what is right to other people. I guarantee that you will find that when you do right by others, others will do right by you. At the very least, you have a better chance at it.

Don’t put up walls and keep out the good things in life. Tear them down and start reaching out. That is what life is all about.

Is there a time in your life that you can remember a change in your attitude made a huge difference in your life. If so, I’d love to hear about it in the comments.

Great post guys, love the fable it certainly helps me to connect with the moral of story. By shutting others out, and generally being a grump you close out opportunities and miss chance to be truly happy. Attitude is everything.

Excellent post Rhonda! I love that story. I also love the angle you took in giving people the hope and chance to change. So many people I’ve been around are so quick to drop friends and family who simply don’t agree with them but never look in the mirror. Wonderful post! Thanks for sharing! 🙂
